Courtesy of Conan, here's a pic of our actor, who will play the role of one of the mercenaries. Conan brings with him a lot of acting experience. A former pro-wrestler, this 7-foot (213cm) tall, 315lbs (143kg) mountain of a person joined us for a little stroll on Chatuchak market and through China town. Needless to say, he stopped traffic on numerous occasions and drew crowds in the Chinatown market district, where farangs of any size are uncommon, let alone of Conan's dimensions! After Eric and I recovered from our initial shock and neckstrain from looking up all the time (and cleaning our pants), we found out that Conan is actually a gentle giant and cool to hang out with. The story plot of this pilot episode is quite simple: in a futuristic,
post-apocalyptic setting in which little remains of the world as we know it now,
one girl stands between total annihilation of our species and savior. Her name
is IQ, she’s a modified human being, meaning that she has been enhanced with
some cybernetic parts and brain implants. The implants hold vital information for
the resistance, who need to use it to unlock a certain mainframe. Unfortunately,
IQ was badly damaged in a skirmish with mercenaries, who wiped out her entire
squadron meant to escort her to the resistance. In the process, IQ’s brain implants
have started to malfunction, causing her to not be able to distinguish fact from fiction
most of the time. In this pilot episode, we see how IQ, in her badly damaged state,
manages to escape the remaining mercenaries inside a massive cement high-rise complex.
There is very little dialogue involved in this pilot episode. However, what the audience
doesn’t hear in the form of words, they need to see from the actors' and actress' expression instead.
Despite the fact that IQ is part machine, she retains most of her human traits,
in that she is an emotional being. She’s dazed and confused after having suffered
the traumatic event, feeling helpless at times, and paranoid and afraid when subjected
to nightmarish hallucinations. Combined with flashbacks to more blissful times, and hints of
what the past was like, IQ finds her way out of the depths of her mind, and into the
world, or what’s left of it. She has to learn to cope with her confusion, and gradually
she starts to understand that all is not what it seems to be.
Cool, just received the following from Sander:
"I'm interested in participating but would like it better if I'm not the only
editor on the job. Also let me know how long this is going to be and so on.
I'll be back in BKK somewhere next week. Just bought myself a MacBook which
should be mucho faster than what I had but still need to change my software to
intel stuff.
cheers,
Sander"
Dave Nicolai is an experienced editor, but has a PC setup. Also, he's in Chiang Mai, and leaving the country soon.
So hopefully others will step up to the plate! Sander does that mean that a hypothetical second editor would be using your Apple? Or would they need their own facilities? I know David Mcreary has an apple setup, but I he's already the DP on this. Not sure if you're up for being a second editor?
Here's the location scout video of last Sunday
it is just some stuff i shot on location with my DV cam.
It can give you an idea of the 'feeling' of the place, but in reality
it is a lot more eerie and spooky than I could translate onto video without any planning. It will look better for several reasons in the actual production, because we will use a professional HD camera and have a cast and crew, to name just a few things ;) In case anyone was wondering if this was the final product...
you can also find this on youtube:
this is a slightly more compressed version, less color saturation.

The high-rise complex is maze-like, much like the illusions that haunt her cyber/organic brain, the escape is tantalizing.

When she finally reaches the outside world, she finds a place she doesn't recognize. In a semi-demolished city, she now has to face her fears, and distinguish fact from fiction in an attempt to retrieve her memory.

This is where the story begins, with IQ captured.
Here we will see the mercenaries doing their stealth recon on the second floor, while IQ, dazed and confused, limps to safety.
Here we will see the first instance of IQ's malfunctioning: she hallucinates that the soldiers are creeping up behind her in the shadows. When she flinches, they are gone.
Here she decides to hide, while her operating system finishes internal repairs.
With her new found energy, IQ finds the exit and manages to escape...
